Learn how to make a cold shoulder skater dress in this step by step sewing tutorial. Cold shoulder tops/dresses are so on trend right now, and skater dresses are always in season, so I decided to put a twist on a regular skater dress by adding the cold shoulder detail. You can make it with long or short sleeves and these cutouts add a fun flair to a classic and figure flattering silhouette!
I’ll show you how to measure yourself and easily cut out a half circle skater skirt, use a shirt you already have to make a bodice, make an easy sleeve pattern (long sleeved or short) with the cold shoulder cut outs, sew it all together, and hem everything to get a neatly finished and gorgeous new outfit! Plus you’ll get my tips on how to sew clothes with stretchy knit fabric if you’re a beginner seamstress.
Pair it with leggings, tights, boots, and a belt for a great fall outfit sure to impress! This style of dress is so flattering on every body type – it adds a nice hourglass shape to smaller frames, and flows away from the body to give a beautiful figure to plus size girls!
-1 ½ - 2 yards of stretch knit fabric (it does need to stretch since there’s no zipper) - get more if you want a significantly longer skirt
-Fitted shirt with sleeves to use as a template
-Basic sewing supplies – scissors, thread, ball point needle, sewing machine, tape measure, pins, chalk, etc.
